Competition Age Groups. From the 1 April 2020, a player's competition age is determined by their age on 31 December - their year of birth. Junior tennis refers to tennis matches where the participants are aged 18 and under. Eligibility to compete in ITF Junior tournaments is not based on age, but year of birth: as a result, some players must move out of juniors soon after their 18th birthday, while others can play juniors until they are nearly 19.
